Independent Trekking and Travel

Glad you found the website useful.  I haven't personally climbed any peaks in Uttarakhand though I'm sure there are a number that are possible to do independently if you are just talking about a little over 5000 m. Actually technically I climbed an unnamed peak not far from Kauri pass that was probably around 5000 m wasn't much more than a scramble up a scree slope.  Though Kauri pass area requires a permit only avalible through a travel agent.  I had to pay an agent money to get me on one of his group permits then once passed the check point I was on my own.  I would suggest if you can find it get a hold of Trekking and Climbing in the Indian Himalaya by Harish Kapadia it may be out of print now but you can find used copies around on amazon.  He gives a lot of good route information on climbs.
